Study of the Nose and Mouth is a new class that focuses on gaining understanding anatomy and structure of two facial features nose and lips in the context of the whole portrait. John Singer Sargent famously remarked that a portrait is a painting where something is wrong with the mouth, highlighting the challenge of capturing these features accurately. This lesson includes a brief anatomy lecture and a slide demonstration showing how various painters have depicted the nose and mouth. The second part of the lesson is a practical demonstration where I will teach you how to: Determine the placement and size relationship of facial features in a portrait. Block in simple shapes of shadow and light. Paint the nose in a sculptural way by carving out features with light from the larger forms of the face. How to vary the quality of edges to support feature’s structure, open the flow of light and describe different quality of the surfaces. For all my materials please see a new free video of Art Materials for Video Lessons and Workshops placed under Study of Painting category. Happy learning, Happy Painting! Included in Lesson: 1 Reference Photo 1 Image of Finished Painting 1 Instructional Video: Part I and Part II combined (1 Hour 57 Minutes)
