Girl In Beret

Girl in a Beret” is a two-part video in which I demonstrate and discuss how to start and finish a portrait. Along the way, I emphasize the importance of keeping an open mind, beginning with a broad, general approach and gradually moving from abstract to more concrete and descriptive. I show how I mix colors, using them not to match my photo reference, but to build form and space—where certain colors advance, and others recede in relation—focusing on painting a singular flow of light rather than the complexity of facial anatomy. I know the video is lengthy and may feel overwhelming at times, but my goal is to plant the seeds of “why,” not just “how.” The “how” is something each artist must work out on their own, but understanding the logic behind it—the “why”—is essential. This video is for all levels, and I hope each viewer will find something meaningful to take with them. Thank you for your support!
